The Prince’s Lead Your Own Business 2015: where are they now?

Cherisa ‘CJ’ Bellis

After 21 years in the Defence Force, Cherisa wanted to create a business that would positively impact people’s lives, and help her local community.

Cherisa applied for the PLYOB to develop her business, Major Freedom, a professional organising service helping families save time and money, and prioritise the important things in their lives.

Within a month of completing her business plan, she secured a 12-month contract.

Major Freedom has given her a new rewarding career, allowing her a flexible working lifestyle to suit her young family. Cherisa credits the success of her business to the program, and has decided to give back to the program by becoming a sponsor of PYLOB.

“There is nothing else like this opportunity in Australia – you just cannot put a dollar value on the support and quality of the resources and facilitators that we had in this program – it’s incredible.”

Jason Dolan

Jason founded Core 9, a personal training studio in Manly NSW, as he was looking for a new adventure after almost 15 years in the military as a particular forces clearance diver. He saw PLYOB as a great opportunity to further his knowledge and skills in running a business.

“The program has given me a different perspective on business development, networking opportunities, and valuable resources that I would never have had access to without PLYOB.”

Since launching, Core 9 has grown to 220 members. Jason has plans to revolutionise the fitness industry and grow his business across Australia and internationally.

Roy Mellon

After departing the Defence Force, Roy was inspired to start his own bookkeeping business, Proactiv Payroll. Roy enrolled in the PLYOB program to elevate his business credentials through a formal qualification.

Based in Perth, Roy’s business now has 20 employees and is providing payroll and employee management products and services across the globe.

Roy’s ambition to lead the Australian market in embracing new technologies is being recognised, with Proactiv Payroll winning the 2016 Telstra Business Award for Western Australia.

A great compliment to the PLYOB program, Roy has this year become one of its generous scholarship providers.

“It’s a privilege to be able to give back to a program that has helped my company thrive.”
